I grew up an effeminate little gay boy in a conservative rural town, and my non-gender conforming behavior made me a target for abuse daily. Exploring sensuality with deviations on acceptable gender roles for men in our society is a topic that continues to interest me.
I have always had a love of photography. I’ve been drawn to it for as long as I can remember. One of my most vivid memories was when I was 18 years old and had the opportunity to view Mapplethorpe’s Perfect Moment in Boston. I was enthralled with his abrupt and unapologetic approach to shooting male nudes.
Since then, I’ve had an interest in shooting, but never truly allowed myself the space to explore until just after I turned 40 and began to look for new ways to express myself. I almost immediately gravitated to shooting male nudes. The beauty and sensuality of the male nude is something that has inspired and excited me my entire life.
